The Vermont Mitten Company
Founded in 2021 to help Jen Ellis make her now famous Bernie Mittens®, this small company located in Shelburne, Vermont set out with a big goal: Make enough mittens for anyone who wants them! After collecting supplies from various partners and many training sessions with Jen, we're excited to finally get these on to your hands.
How They're Made
Each mitten is made with parts from several different sweaters and lined with oh so cozy fleece. Our team of designers carefully select colors, textures and patterns to make each pair special, unique and different so no two pairs are ever the same.
Giving Back
Not only do these mittens help the environment by keeping retired clothing out of landfills, each pair also supports Outright Vermont, which helps build a Vermont where all LGBTQ+ youth have hope, equity, and power.
The Bernie Mittens®
Jen's world changed after Joe Biden's Presidential Inauguration in January of 2021 due our Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. He was wearing a pair of mittens Jen had made for him years before. Suddenly, her mittens were viral, and she was getting more requests than she could handle. And that's when Vermont Teddy Bear lent a helping hand and created The Vermont Mitten Company.
